Day 1: Marrakech to Ouarzazate via the High Atlas Mountains and Ait Ben Haddou
Your adventure begins with an early morning pickup from your hotel or the airport in Marrakech. We’ll set off on a scenic drive crossing the majestic High Atlas Mountains, passing through the winding Tizi-n-Tichka pass. Along the way, expect to stop frequently to admire and capture sweeping views of the rugged landscapes and picturesque valleys.
Next, we visit the iconic Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah — a striking ancient fortified village recognized by UNESCO for its cultural significance. After a nourishing breakfast, we explore Ouarzazate, starting with a visit to the legendary Atlas Film Studios where numerous blockbusters were filmed. Then, we tour the historic Taourirt Kasbah, a stunning example of traditional mud-brick architecture.
Our journey continues along the lush Draa Valley, Morocco’s longest river valley, dotted with verdant palm groves, ancient kasbahs, and charming Berber villages. We'll stop for lunch in either Nkob or Alnif, where you can taste local flavors.
In the afternoon, we head toward the vast Erg Chebbi dunes near Merzouga, the gateway to the Sahara. Here, you’ll mount a camel and embark on a peaceful trek into the desert to watch the sunset from atop the dunes — an unforgettable spectacle of colors and tranquility.

Next, stop in Khamlia, a village famous for its lively Gnaoua music and dance, reflecting the rich culture of its sub-Saharan roots. After a leisurely lunch at a local restaurant, stroll through the serene palm groves before visiting the nearby Merzouga lake, also known as Flamingo Lake, a sanctuary for migratory birds.
